Overview
murmur ("the App") is a personal journaling application developed by Dan Lynch ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Information We Collect
When you use murmur, we may collect the following information:
- Account information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name (if you choose to share it) and a unique identifier. We do not receive your Apple ID email unless you choose to share it.
- Journal entries: Text entries, voice notes, photos, and associated metadata (such as date, time, and emotions) that you create within the app.
- Location data: If you grant permission, we may collect your location when creating a journal entry to pin it on your personal map. Location access is entirely optional.
- Usage analytics: We collect anonymized usage data (such as feature usage and app sessions) to improve the app experience. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the journaling service
- To sync your data across your devices
- To improve the app based on anonymized usage patterns
- To send optional reminder notifications that you configure
Data Storage & Security
Your journal data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted cloud infrastructure provider. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest on the server. We do not sell, share, or provide your personal journal data to any third parties.
Third-Party Services
murmur uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — for secure data storage and authentication
- RevenueCat — for managing subscriptions (processes purchase data only)
- PostHog — for anonymized product analytics
- Apple Sign In — for authentication
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access all data we store about you
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Export your journal data
- Revoke location or notification permissions at any time
Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
murmur is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
